Daihatsu celebrates small car bonanza

DAIHATSU is aiming to make the most of the current downsizing trend with the introduction of an upmarket version of its baby Sirion.

The apparent contradiction reflects the wholesale move towards smaller cars by motorists who do not wish to skimp on style or equipment.

Despite falling sales elsewhere, the Japanese small car specialist says that the number of UK buyers has risen by more than 40 per cent so far this year.

Now the importer has introduced a more expensive version of the Sirion, called the Sirion+.

In addition to the standard air conditioning, CD player, electric windows and remote central-locking, the Sirion+ features a large electric sunroof with rain-sensing automatic closure, front fog lamps, side protection mouldings, a leather steering wheel and leather gear knob.

This boosts the price by £895 for all models except the 1.5 SX, which rises by £725.

Costing from £7,995 for the entry-level Sirion 1.0 S, there is 60mpg economy and a £35 annual tax figure.

All Daihatsus now come with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty plus five years? UK roadside recovery.
