Taiwan whisky beats Scottish whisky at Burns Night event

A TAIWANESE whisky has beaten a trio of top Scottish blends during an event to mark Burns Night.

The three Scottish blends were beaten in a taste-test by Taiwan-distilled Kavalan brand, described as a "Far Eastern incomer"

Whisky connoisseurs involved in the taste test were astounded with the unexpected result, which was held in Leith, Edinburgh.

Burns Night, held on January 25 is held to celebrate the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns.

Burns Suppers are held throughout the world with haggis, neeps and tatties being the staple meal. Addressing the haggis, reading out Burns poetry and enjoying the music of a bagpiper are traditional of the Burns Supper.
