Dundee woman to sue over falling pineapple

A PIECE of fruit could prove costly for Tesco.

Pensioner Mary Raimo is suing the supermarket giants after she was hit on the head by a pineapple in their Lochee branch. The 76-year-old is said to have suffered a concussion when the fruit knocked her to the floor.

Mary claims that the accident happened as a result of bad stacking and the fruit was dislodged by another customer.

Speaking to BBC news, her lawyer said: "She is hoping for compensation on the basis that Tesco negligently stacked the pineapples.

"She says she is still getting headaches and neck pains and if that is the case we would be looking for several thousand pounds compensation."

A spokesperson for Tesco explained that the claim was in the hands of the company's lawyers.

She said: "Customer safety is very important to us and we are looking into what happened, our best wishes are with Mary Raimo for a speedy recovery."

She added that due to the ongoing legal proceedings, Tesco were unable to comment any further.
