Cemetery contaminated with asbestos

Authorities have closed a cemetery after "mindless" vandals contaminated it with asbestos from stolen copper piping.

Vandals broke into St Eunan's Primary School in Clydebank on Thursday evening and ripped out copper pipes lagged in asbestos which they threw over a wall into Kilbowie Cemetery.

They then hit the pipes on headstones, trees and the dividing wall between the school and the cemetery, which loosened the asbestos from the pipes.
