Tory tobacco bill amendment fails

An attempt to kill off a proposed ban on the display of tobacco in shops has been defeated in the Scottish Parliament.

Conservative MSP Mary Scanlon argued that the legislation will hit small businesses already struggling with the effects of recession.

She said: "The fact is, the evidence base does not exist to support this ban."
