Politicians urged to regain trust

Politicians have suffered an "annus horribilis" this year, Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy has said.

He used the phrase, which famously featured in the Queen's 1992 Christmas broadcast, to describe a year which saw Westminster rocked by the scandal over MPs' expenses.

And he urged politicians to work to regain the trust of voters ahead of the forthcoming general election.
