Military death inquiries to be held

Fatal accident inquiries into the deaths of military personnel killed abroad will be held in Scotland for the first time, it has been announced.

The Ministry of Defence said amendments to the Coroners and Justice Bill would allow the inquiries to take place in Scottish courts.

There is currently no legislative basis under Scots law for the Lord Advocate to investigate deaths outside Scotland.
