Police crack down on motorists

MONKLANDS’ Police officers took part in a major initiative to crack down on drivers committing motoring offences.

Twenty three drivers were issued with fixed penalty tickets including 10 for driving without a seatbelt, three for speeding and one using a mobile phone while driving.

The day of action took place on February 27.

Said Inspector Colin Wylie: “Road safety is a continuing concern for the entire community.

“This is very obvious as when we speak with local residents and groups the subject of speeding motorists and other forms of careless driving are frequently raised and discussed.

“The Road Policing Department provided additional officers to work alongside Coatbridge community officers and a high number of motorists were detected for a variety of offences.

“The majority of the offending drivers were issued with fixed penalty tickets and we would again highlight the dangers of such driving, not only to the actual driver but other road users and pedestrians as well. "
