Plains man spat at police

A PLAINS man who assaulted and spat at a police officer after having caused a disturbance was placed on probation for two years.

John Morris was also ordered to attend domestic violence counselling, anger management sessions and the integrated addiction service as a condition of his sentence.

The 30-year-old, of Wallace Street, pleaded guilty to behaving in a disorderly manner at a neighbouring house in the same street on August 3 last year.

He placed a woman there in a state of fear and alarm and caused a breach of the peace by behaving in a disorderly manner, shouting and swearing – then assaultedthe policeman and spat in his face.

Sheriff Peter Hammond said: “It’s clear your life has been chaotic and addiction is at the root of that, but social work feel this is the way forward for you.”
