NEW jobs are up for grabs on the new £300 million Airdrie-Bathgate rail link.
Network Rail and Carillion Construction are to select 16 new recruits from the community.
The candidates - taken from the long-term unemployed - will receive training before being deployed on the main construction operations from next month.
Successful applicants will go on a three-week course which will consist of basic health and safety, general plant and site training.
Ron McAulay, Network Rail director, said: “The new Airdrie-Bathgate rail link will bring huge long term benefits to communities and these 16 new roles are just the tip of the iceberg. Each new employee will come from the area and will be selected from the ranks of the long-term unemployed.
“Working on this project will open up new opportunities.”
