AIRDRIE & Shotts MSP, Karen Whitefield, has called on Network Rail to take action to combat vandalism of houses in Plains now empty as a result of work on the Airdrie to Bathgate line.
She has requested a site visit with Network Rail staff so that they can see the vandalism .
Ms Whitefield said: “While I appreciate that Network Rail is trying to resolve this matter, I am very concerned about the safety of those living adjacent to the vacant properties.
“I am demanding that Network Rail takes action urgently to demolish these houses, or at the very least, make them properly secure.
“It is not acceptable that these residents must live next to heavily vandalised properties.
“Not only is it unsafe, it is also unsightly for all the local residents.”
