Five people were arrested last week in connection with two drug busts in Monklands in which police recovered more than a quarter of a million pounds worth of cannabis.
Officers seized most of the haul from an address in Plains on Halloween.
The massive amount of the drug – with an estimated street value of £230,000 – was discovered at around 5.40pm last Wednesday, when officers from Airdrie carried out a search under warrant of a house at Killearn Crescent.
Police arrested three members of the same family who were taken into custody in connection with the seizure.
Christopher Gorman (49), Karen Gorman (46) and Christopher Gorman junior (28) all appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Friday charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. All three made no plea or declaration and were released on bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Pat Campbell at Motherwell CID said: “Strathclyde Police is committed to tackling serious and organised crime in our communities and we will take every opportunity to detect and arrest those involved who profit from flooding our streets with drugs and the associated misery that this brings.
“This operation shows that we are keeping people safe and sends a clear message to discourage people in becoming involved in organised crime.
“It also shows those who already are involved, that we will actively target them and ensure that there is no place for them to hide.”
Meanwhile in an unconnected incident, a man and a woman are set to appear in court following a drugs find in Coatbridge at the weekend.
Officers visited an address in the town’s Kirkwood Place at around 3.45pm on Sunday and detected a strong smell of cannabis while talking to a male occupant at the address.
The police requested and were granted a warrant to carry out a search of the property.
During the subsequent search they discovered 15 cannabis plants in the loft and more than 1.5kg of cannabis which had already been cultivated.
A 36-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman are both due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court on December 4 in connection with the discovery.
