TWO Monklands residents are celebrating after scooping £10,000 each in the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Lucky duo Elizabeth Sharpe and Gillian Miller, who live in Dunbeth Road in Coatbridge, scooped the charity lotteries prize when their ML5 3JW postcode came up trumps last Saturday, December 17.
Elizabeth, who is retired, said: “I am speechless, I had to count all of the zeroes on the cheque to believe it.”
Elizabeth, who is now planning a cruise ship holiday next year, signed up to play People’s Postcode Lottery in 2007.
The second winner, solicitor Gillian Miller, also has a holiday in mind.
She said: “I am amazed. It’s just the best news, and couldn’t have come at a better time.
“My friends and I were just the other day discussing booking a holiday to Las Vegas – now I have the funds to go ahead and book my flights.”
Gillian also has plans to move house next year and plans on using some of the money towards a deposit.
People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Scott Quinnell said “What a lovely surprise for our winners and a lovely boost for the festive period.
“As a charity lottery, People’s Postcode Lottery has awarded more than £15.7 million to charities here in Great Britain.”
Coatbridge Citizens Advice Bureau received £9500 in funding from People’s Postcode Trust last year, the independent grant giving body of People’s Postcode Lottery.
The funding was used to create an ethnic minorities outreach resource, which provides direct services to a marginalised community who face issues of discrimination and are often reluctant to claim state benefits.
The ML postcode area has received a massive total of £95,000 in funding, supporting 26 separate charitable causes and projects.
Scott added: “A huge amount of charities across Lanarkshire have received funding, and it’s all because of People’s Postcode Lottery players – so thank you.”
Your postcode could win you a share of £1 million this Christmas.
People’s Postcode Lottery is currently giving away free tickets to win a share of a £1 million, in a draw which takes place on December 28, 2011.
