Liz and Tommy Rennicks
AN Airdrie couple had a golden time as they were joined by family from as far afield as Chicago to celebrate 50 years of marriage.
Liz (69) and Tommy (70) Renicks were treated to a proper knees-up in Gartlea Community Centre to mark the milestone.
Daughter Yvonne (45) and her husband Stuart came over from the United States with Liz and Tommy’s grandchildren Taylor (16) and Andrew (12) as they were determined not to miss their special day.
Liz said: “It was really great to see Yvonne, Stuart and the kids come over for the party.
“They were all looking well and we are hoping to get over to Chicago in the near future with some of the money we received for our anniversary.”
Liz and Tommy’s son Kenneth (49) and grandson David (11) were also on hand as family and friends were beaming with pride at the couple’s golden achievement.
Liz said: “Kenneth and David were all chuffed with our anniversary too.
“We got about 90 cards and around £820, as well as lots of vouchers and a champagne lunch.
“Tommy and I were up dancing for a large part of the night and we rolled back the years.
“It was an excellent party and we’d like to thank all who came along and gave us generous gifts.”
Liz and Tommy met at the dancing in Airdrie Palais before getting married at Ebenezer Congregational Church on June 30, 1961.
Both enjoy gardening and Liz spends a lot of time on her computer talking to her grandchildren in Chicago via webcam.
Liz said: “Tommy hasn’t kept great health over the years so at times I questioned if we’d reach 50 years of marriage.
“But we have and it’s terrific, and a double celebration as Tommy turned 70 in June.
“We’re still very happy together and delighted to celebrate our golden wedding.”
