Christopher Devlin Funeral
THE LOVED ones of murder victim Christopher Devlin laid the popular Whinhall man to rest amid emotional scenes on Monday.
Hundreds turned out to say farewell to “Big Chrissy” and support his distraught family through their terrible ordeal.
A funeral mass at St Andrew’s Church was so well-attended that many mourners had to stand outside.
Relatives came from as far afield as Ireland to pay their respects.
Family members including brothers Mark and Stephen gave readings as Christopher’s proud parents Bernadette and John struggled to contain their emotions.
Not lost on anyone who attended the mass and who went on to St Joseph’s cemetery for the committal, was the sheer futility of the loss of such a much-loved man who was stabbed to death earlier this month.
Christopher’s grave at St Joseph’s was covered by wreaths, bouquets of flowers and messages from close family members, friends and neighbours.
One heartbreaking message on a special wreath said: “Chrissy, we will always love you. Until we meet again, lots of love, Mum and Dad.”
Another read: “Christopher, taken from us so quickly. You are beautiful in death as you were in life. You were one of the best. Going to miss you loads. See you soon, your big Sis.”
Many other poignant wreaths adorned the grave including one spelling out “Daddy,” from Christopher’s young son.
Christopher’s aunt Ann told the Advertiser: “It was very emotional for Bernadette and John.
“They really appreciate everyone who paid their respects to Christopher.”
“There was a massive turnout at the funeral and the family would like to thank everyone for their support.”
Jospeh Docherty (29) has been charged with Christopher Devlin’s murder and was due to make a second appearance at Airdrie Sheriff Court yesterday.
