CONSTRUCTION has begun on two new houses in Airdrie for former service personnel.
The Scottish Veterans’ Garden City Association are building the semi-detached homes beside their existing two properties on Aitchison Street.
Provost Tom Curley, the Airdrie South councillor, took part in the ceremonial cutting of the first turf at the site, alongside the organisation’s Mary Sweeney and invited guests.
Councillors on North Lanarkshire’s planning committee granted permission in March for the development, which will be created in the rear garden space of the existing homes.
The veterans’ group rents out properties to disabled ex-forces personnel and is building new homes with full disabled access.
