VOTERS go to the hustings on Sunday to vote for the Labour Party’s candidate for the Airdrie & Shotts seat.
The all-women shortlist foisted on Airdrie & Shotts Labour Party branch members has raised much controversy.
The fight for John Reid’s seat is between former Labour councillor Cathy Dick, who lost the Rochsoles/ Glenmavis safe seat to the SNP in 1992; Joanne Milligan, former research assistant to Coatbridge & Chryston MSP Elaine Smith and Chapelhall’s Pamela Nash, a research assistant for John Reid.
Around 160 ballot papers have been issued to members and the count will take place on Sunday at 3pm in Gartlea Community Centre. A Labour insider told the Advertiser: “It will be a close-run race and there is no guarantee how it will pan out.
“Members are furious they have had an all-women shortlist imposed upon them.”
