NORTH Lanarkshire’s 14th annual Burns Supper raised almost £5000 for the Children in Need appeal through an auction and raffle.
Provost Tom Curley hosted the event, which was held at Motherwell Civic Centre and sponsored by M&D’s theme park.
The Airdrie South councillor said: “It is always an honour for me to host the Burns Supper, which is very worthwhile and has raised so much money. Children in Need give grants to many children’s groups in our area, so it is always great to support this tremendous charity.
“I would like to thank everyone who helped to make this year’s event such a success, including the council staff and all those who donated raffle prizes, offered sponsorship or purchased a table.”
Calderhead High pupil Greg McAllister piped in the haggis alongside Wishaw schoolboy Nicholas Brophy, and later played the Lament.
Jim McCabe, the council leader, said the Selkirk Grace before guests enjoyed traditional Burns fare, while the Loyal Toast came from Lanarkshire’s Lord Lieutenant Gilbert Cox and the Immortal Memory from DerekRodger.
The Toast Tae the Lasses was performed by Tom Barrie OBE and the Reply came from Kay Blair. Guests were also addressed by Raymond Tulips and musical entertainment was provided by Gaberlunzie.
