SHOCKING ATTACK AT NIGHT CLUB
A REVELLER needed his ear stitched back on following a horrific attack in a popular night club.
The shocking assault took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in Level 2 – part of The Edge complex – in Coatbridge.
The 22-year-old victim required emergency surgery at Monklands Hospital to re-attach the ear.
Thirty stitches were needed to the wound before the man, from Airdrie, could be released from hospital.
Cops are hunting the attacker, who is described as aged 20 to 24, with brown hair, medium build and wearing a light-coloured top.
Both the victim and his attacker were said to have been in the toilets, having a conversation, before the assault took place.
When the bouncers were alerted they asked the two men and another man to leave the Main Street venue.
All three left Level 2 and at that point the club staff were unaware of anyone being injured.
Raymond Cadona, a director of The Edge, said: “The stewards were there in less than a minute and found the three men in the communal area of the toilets and asked them all to leave.
“No one said they required medical attention at the time and no one asked for help which we would have provided because we have two members of staff who are qualified first aiders.
“We are currently burning the CCTV images for the police to look at. We have 28 cameras in Level 2.
“We regret this incident and wish the man a speedy recovery and will do everything we can to assist the police.
“The Edge has been open for a year and a few weeks, and has been well received.
“We don’t get much in the way of incidents like this.
“There were 400 people in the club on Saturday night and it was a great atmosphere. It was a good night.”
Detective Inspector Bob Frew, of Coatbridge CID, is appealing for witnesses to the incident.
He said: “This was a vicious attack on a young man and we are anxious to trace the person responsible as quickly as possible. Anyone at the club who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information, should contact Coatbridge CID on 01236 205057.”
