Hospital infection rates drop

LATEST figures on hospital-related infections show that there is a record low rate of Clostridium Difficile (C. diff) and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in the NHS Lanarkshire area.

Across Scotland rates of C.diff have dropped by 44 per cent in the last two years.

Communities minister Alex Neil welcomed the official statistics which also showed that NHS Lanarkshire C.diff rates have dropped from 226 in early 2007 to 75 between April and June this year.

The Central Scotland MSP said: “NHS Lanarkshire is among the areas with the most dramatic falls, which reflects the effort staff here have put in to ensure hygiene is a top priority.”
