Pop duo Hue & Cry go back to their Coatbridge roots

COATBRIDGE pop duo Hue & Cry are coming home - and you could catch them live thanks to the Advertiser.

Brothers Pat and Greg Kane who had chart success in the 80s and 90s are set to perform at The Georgian Hotel.

The Blairhill boys scored hits with songs such as Labour of Love from their excellent debut album Seduced and Abandoned and Looking for Linda from follow up LP Remote.

Now they are about to launch a new studio album and to mark the occasion they will take to the stage at The Georgian before embarking on a British tour.

Titled Open Soul, the new release will be put out on their very own record label appropriately named Blairhill Records.

Available from Monday, September 8, the album boasts an “energetic combination of the band’s classic pop soul sound and fresh, crisp, sometimes stripped down production”.

After such a long lay off from recording, the brothers seem to be more enthusiastic than ever about making and performing music.

They said: “We have never been so happy to be out doing our thing as Hue and Cry. We have found that our music carries an eternal edge and we are taking advantage of that in the current musical climate. We are definitely back for good.”

A spokesman for the band added: “It’s an exciting time for the boys; not only are they about to release a new studio album after a 16-year absence from mainstream music, but they have also set up their own record label, which is affectionately named after Blairhill where Pat and Greg grew up.”

The Georgian Hotel concert scheduled for Thursday, September 4 looks like being a cracker.

The intimate venue has hosted some great gigs recently but this one could top the lot.

Unfortunately, there is no public sale of tickets for the eagerly-anticipated gig which is being promoted by Real Radio.

But the Advertiser has teamed up with the popular station to send two lucky fans to the Georgian.

All you have to do is answer this simple question: What is Pat and Greg’s surname?

Send your answer, with your name and daytime telephone number to Gordon Robertson at the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser, 12 Bank Street, Airdrie. Ml6 6AF.
