Thieves make off with whisky lorryload from Coatbridge depot

IT’S a case of whisky no more after thirsty thieves stole a lorryload of 30,000 bottles worth £250,000 from a Coatbridge depot.

The red lorry and trailer were stolen from Europa Worldwide Logistics yard in Hornoch Road, Coatbridge, last Friday around 11pm.

The empty lorry and trailer was recovered at a lay-by on the A8 between Langbank and Port Glasgow around 5pm the next day.

The Boyle Transport vehicle’s load included William Lawson's Blended Whisky, Aberfeldy Malt Whisky, Dewers Special Reserve and Glenlivet Malt Whisky.

PJ Boyle, managing director of Northern Ireland firm Boyle, said: “I would love to know who stole the truck and how they managed it.

“I was very, very shocked when I found out what had happened. Nothing like this has ever happened to one of our vehicles before.

“I can’t say anything about the security arrangements at the yard just now because of the police investigation.”

Detective Sergeant Kenny Dalrymple, at Coatbridge CID, would like to speak to anyone who has any information regarding this theft.

He would also like to hear from anyone who is offered the sale of cut-price bottles of whisky.

He can be contacted on 01236 502000. Alternatively calls can be made via CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111.
