St Kevin's book day is a huge success

ENTERPRISING pupils at St Kevin’s Primary celebrated World Book Day by holding a charity sale at their very own “Starbooks” cafe.

Youngsters from primary six and seven at the Bargeddie school decided to run the second-hand book sale to help street children in Columbia.

They were up early to serve coffee and home-baked muffins to parents from 8.30am, as well as selling on old books donated from their own collections.

Part of the school’s Lenten charity efforts, the senior pupils’ venture proved equally popular with adults and youngsters alike as £165 was raised to help feed and educate the street children.

Marlene Docherty, head teacher at the school on Langmuir Road, thanked all those who donated and sorted books and praised the pupils for using Fairtrade goods and recycling carrier bags in their cafe.
