Conman tricks elderly woman out of cash

LOCAL residents have again been warned to be on their guard after a bogus odd-job man conned money out of a pensioner in Bargeddie.

The man knocked on the 84-year-old woman’s door and offered to do some work for her including clearing her gutters.

The elderly homeowner handed over £20 for the work.

However, despite promising to return a few minutes later to start the work, the conman didn’t come back and the elderly and vulnerable woman was left of pocket and shocked.

The lady contacted police a short time later when she became suspicious that the so-called worker had failed to turn up to do the work.

This is the latest in a string of bogus caller attacks in Monklands over the past few weeks.

Now police have appealed for information and have also repeated calls for homeowners to be extra vigilant.

The latest incident happened on Saturday, July 6 at around 2pm In Roslyn Drive.

The bogus caller is described as being between 30 and 35 years old, of slim build with a local accent.

Anyone with information about this or any other bogus caller attacks has been urged to contact local police on 01236 502 000 (Coatbridge) or 01236 505 100 (Airdrie).
