AIRDRIE UNITED’S under-10 squad rounded the recent season off in style by emerging victorious from the Glenafton tournament in Ayrshire.
The prestigious competition attracts entrants from all over west and central Scotland.
And the young Diamonds showed their class by playing some lovely football to advance from the group stages.
A 3-0 quarter-final victory was secured over Baillieston before Wolves Boys’ Club were beaten by a similar scoreline.
That set up a final against Cumbernauld United and despite going behind, the Diamonds stormed back to win 2-1 and lift the trophy thanks to goals from Jordan Allan and man of the match Jamie Brandon.
The team’s successes on the pitch have led to three of the players signing professional youth contracts with Scottish Premier League clubs.
Brandon has signed on with Rangers, Ryan Coulter has penned a contract with Hearts while Greg MacKenzie has joined Aberdeen.
The club will be holding trials shortly to fill places within the squad. E-mail AirdrieUnited98s@aol.com for more information.
