AIRDRIE Leisure Centre is to close for a month from this weekend for a £130,000 programme of improvements.
The facility on Motherwell Street, run by North Lanarkshire Leisure, is to be kitted out with state-of-the-art fitness equipment.
It will be provided by Olympic supplier Technogym, and the new range will include cardiovascular equipment and a full weight resistance range, suitable for users of all ages and abilities.
The centre will shut its doors on Monday to accommodate the work, which will also include refurbishing the gym.
It is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, January 3, and in the meantime centre users are encouraged to use any North Lanarkshire Leisure facility, including the Time Capsule in Coatbridge.
Airdrie’s revamped new centre will include a lower-body workout Cardio Wave machine, the only product of its kind on the market, and the Top machine for upper body work.
Weight resistance and a multi-functional cable trainer will also provide a range of exercise options, and all of the cardiovascular equipment features interactive TV screens, iPod connectivity, heart rate technology and choice of exercise programmes.
Airdrie Central councillor Jim Logue, chair of North Lanarkshire Leisure, said: “The new equipment will be state-of-the-art – Technogym is described by the International Olympic Committee as ‘best in class’.
“The world’s best athletes use this equipment, and so will North Lanarkshire Leisure customers.”
