Pupils jump to it at big skipping festival

OVER 500 primary school kids took part in a skipping festival at Airdrie Leisure Centre.

Many of the schools involved held skipping clubs and put in a lot of practice for the festival.

However, there was no competitive edge as a fun atmosphere was supplied by the Active Schools staff who organised the event.

Cameron Reid, one of the Active Schools Coordinators present during the event, said: “Kids love skipping. It is the highest participatory sport out there.

“Our primary objective is to encourage primary school kids to get involved in sport.

“This was the third year we have run this event and we are looking to run it next year as well.

“We are also planning on running other sports festivals, like football and netball, as primary school kids tend not to have access to these activities any more.”
