Airdrie MSP calls for action on floods

SNP MSP Alex Neil is to write to Network Rail and Scottish Water to urge swift action on the flooding issues facing Airdrie.

The flash floods that affected the area last week served to highlight the unacceptable situation Airdrie businesses and residents are living in says the MSP.

The problems at Broomknoll Street, beside the railway station and at Alexandra Primary School, were once again particularly bad.

Mr Neil has been campaigning on this issue for the last two years.

He said: "I have spoken to Network Rail on a number of occasions and that has resulted in them carrying out some work.

"I will now also be approaching Scottish Water on this matter and make it clear to them that something needs to be done. It is their drainage system which requires significant capital expenditure significant but essential”.
