Plains Primary celebrate gold health award

PLAINS Primary are celebrating after gaining the prestigious gold award in the Health Promoting Schools scheme.

Youngsters and staff gained the award after running a series of special events including a baked potato day to encourage healthy eating and cooking and a “fun in the sun” day highlight the sun-smart rules.

They also tend a thriving fruit and vegetable garden in their campus grounds, take part in North Lanarkshire's tooth-brushing programme and take part in the school’s own personal and social skills programme, entitled Going for Gold.

Plains Primary is only the eighth school in Airdrie to gain the gold award, which was presented at a recent assembly.

The health committee, comprising pupils, parent Denise Fromberg and teacher Erin Campbell, received a trophy and framed certificate from Airdrie area health promotion officer Susan Peacock.

Special guests at the assembly were the youngsters who will start in Primary One at the Annieshill View school in August, along with their parents and carers.
