A COATBRIDGE high school has been shortlisted for a top magazine award.
Coatbridge High School has been picked in four categories at this year's PPA Scottish School Magazine Awards and is one of seven schools competing for the top prize, School Magazine of the Year.
Their magazine, Rare Beast, is shortlisted for Best Magazine Cover, Best Overall Editorial Content and Best Overall Design & Layout, while Daniel Glendinning (13) is shortlisted for Outstanding Individual. The PPA Scottish School Magazine Awards recognise excellence in editorial, design, creative writing and commercial aspects of magazine publishing.
The standard of school magazines is generally very high, making the judging process extremely difficult, but a judging panel comprising some of the UK's leading publishing industry figures tackled this task with great care.
Around 200 pupils and teachers from all over Scotland will attend this year's awards at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on June 12, hosted by the BBC's Cathy MacDonald. A special careers exhibition will also be held.
This year the award will be presented by the Minister for Schools & Skills, Keith Brown, MSP.
The overall winning school will be the guests of PPA Scotland at the Scottish Magazine Awards in Edinburgh on November 26.
This is the premier event for the magazine industry in Scotland and an excellent opportunity for school pupils to experience the excitement of a ceremony celebrating the very best of magazine publishing in this country.
The winning school will also have the opportunity of having their magazine professionally printed courtesy of Acorn Web Offset.
Kathy Crawford, Business Manager of organisers PPA Scotland, said: "PPA is delighted at the growing interest and enthusiasm shown by pupils and teachers across the whole of the country for the Scottish School Magazine Competition.
“These young, enthusiastic, industrious and creative magazine people of the future deserve recognition for all their excellent work."
