PUPILS from Coatbridge High are hoping to win a national school magazine title for a second consecutive year.
Their publication, Rare Beast, was named magazine of the year at the Scottish school magazine awards 12 months ago and has once again been nominated for the 2009 top prize.
It has also been shortlisted in the categories of best cover, best editorial content and best design and layout.
Daniel Glendinning, a 13-year-old pupil at the Kildonan Street school, has also been nominated in the outstanding individual category at the awards, which take place next week at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh.
Coatbridge High is one of seven schools in line for the main prize and the local youngsters will be the only North Lanarkshire representatives among the 200 attendees at the ceremony.
Winning schools will receive the Quark Express8 design package and work experience opportunities, while the overall winners will have their magazine professionally produced and be invited to November’s Scottish magazine awards.
The ceremony is run by the Periodical Publishers’ Association and judges included Hello! publishing director Sally Cartwright, DC Thomson managing editor Ian Lamb, and Jenny McKay, director of the journalism programme at Stirling University.
