Council to vote on Alexandra and Rochsolloch joint-campus

THE new joint-campus schools to replace Alexandra and Rochsolloch Primaries has been given the go-ahead.

Councillors on North Lanarkshire’s learning and leisure committee voted in favour of the new schools at Moss Road at a meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

They noted that responses to the project were ‘polarised’ with eighty per cent from the Alexandra community being against the plan, and a further 211 petition letters rejecting the combined campus, campaigning for a stand-alone school in place of their 120-year-old building on Broomknoll Street.

By contrast, 96 per cent of Rochsolloch respondents accepted the proposed joint campus to replace the 109-year-old Kippen Street school.

See next week’s Advertiser for a report on the full debate and decision.

Work on the project is expected to start in August 2011.
