Top marks for Carnbroe

A COATBRIDGE school has received a gold star from inspectors.

The report on Carnbroe Primary highlighted improvements in pupils’ reading and writing, well-behaved pupils with positive attitudes, teamwork, the commitment of staff to school improvement and well-paced teaching within a supportive learning environment.

Arrangements for ensuring the care and welfare of pupils were classed as very good. The school had implemented a range of suitable policies to help meet pupils’ emotional, physical, health and social needs.

These policies were judged to have helped to establish a supportive sense of community within the school in which pupils felt safe and well-cared for.

Staff were praised for dealing sensitively and effectively with children’s needs and concerns, while relationships between pupils and staff were characterised by respect and confidence.

A questionnaire given to pupils’ parents found that they were satisfied with almost all aspects of the school.

They felt that children were encouraged to work to the best of their ability and that staff showed concern for their care and welfare.

Parents felt welcome in the school and thought parents’ evenings were helpful and informative.

They also said that teachers set high standards for children’s achievements and made it clear to parents what standard of work it expected from the kids.

Carnbroe’s promotion of healthy living through a range of whole-school events and planned learning activities was also well received.

Head teacher Janice Shevill said: “We are all delighted with the comments made by HMI and are thrilled that the hard work of the pupils, staff, parents and wider community has been recognised. We intend to continue to improve as we strive for excellence, both in our pupils and our learning and teaching.”

Due to the school’s high level of performance, and the strong record of improvement, the HM Inspectors will make no further reports in connection with the inspection.
