PUPILS from Chapelside Primary School had a blooming marvellous time at this year’s Summer Flower Festival.
The annual show, which boasts a riot of colour and floral displays, was officially opened by the Airdrie pupils alongside councillor Helen McKenna on Thursday.
Taking place at Viewpark Gardens in Uddingston, pupils from the Chapel Street school as well as visitors from all over North Lanarkshire felt like they’d been transported to the Far East.
The festival celebrates the up-and-coming Olympic Games in Beijing with a stunning selection of oriental-themed floral displays, terracotta warriors, Chinese junks, giant pandas, imperial guardian lions and other iconic figures.
There was also music, face painting and street theatre to keep the many visitors entertained throughout.
Youngsters from Chapelside Primary sheared the ribbon to mark the start of the colourful festival alongside councillor McKenna, Convener of Environmental Services.
She said: “It is a pleasure to be at the festival and see the very obvious enjoyment of visitors of all ages.
"These gardens are always beautiful however, during the Flower Festival, they do take on a new splendour with the all skill and hard work of those who organise this great family event. I'm sure everyone who visits between now and Sunday will be both impressed and entertained.”
