Gary Stone ready for Lakeside darts debut

Darts player Gary Stone.

GARY STONE will live a Lakeside dream when he competes in the world professional darts championships.

The 30-year-old, originally from Burnfoot, takes on Dutchman Ron Meulenkamp in the first round of the competition on Saturday, January 7.

And the Workmen’s B star could face the legendary Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams in the second round.

Stone can’t wait to step up to the oche and says he’s come a long way from playing darts for fun in his own home.

“I have been playing darts for around four years and this is going to be my first time down at the Lakeside,” he told Advertiser Sport.

“It’s all progressed from when I was out shopping with my wife, Claire, and she said I should get a dart board for the spare room.

“There is a great atmosphere at the Lakeside and I’m really looking forward to getting down there.

“ I am in for a tough match but I have played at international level, which has given me experience.”

Stone added: “The people involved in the Airdrie & District Darts League have been great with me and I know they want me to do well.”
