Darts: Results from four-man team competition

THE battle for the Airdrie & District Darts League title was put on hold as players fought for a spot in the four-man team competition final.

In the top half of the draw, the Workmen’s A quartet of Bobby McGuigan, Kenny Watters, John Regan and Jim Dunley left recent form at home as they saw off The Clansman and Whisky Joe’s.

Those victories helped them to a place in the quarter-finals where they disposed of The Swan which set up a clash against The Swan A team.

Big Jim Parker gave Swan A an early lead that was doubled by Jim Simpson soon after.

Dunley halved the deficit but Brian Carr had Swan A in the driving seat when he claimed success on the oche.

Any hopes Workies A had of mounting a comeback were dashed when Terry McPake accompanied Carr in the winning double to secure victory.

In the bottom half of the draw, Fourways joined Swan A in the final after they pipped The Forge in a 701 tie-break.

Meanwhile, Fourways young gun Frank Quinn is the new Scottish Youth Singles’ champion after he defeated Gary McIntyre in the final.

Airdrie & District Darts League secretary, Gordon Hunter, said: “Frank is a good prospect and a name to look out for in the future.”

There was no joy for local arrowers who headed south to compete in the Welsh Open.

The best performer of the group was Ian Gibb of the Workmen’s Club, who got to the last 64. The event was won by Renfrew’s Ross Montgomery.

lEntries are now being taken for the ‘Summer Sixes’ tournament, which will be held at Airdrie Working Men’s Club, starting on Monday, July 27.

Places will be coveted with a prize of £1000 up for grabs, so local darts players are encouraged to enter as soon as possible.
