Young Diamonds in sparkling form

AIRDRIE United’s under-14 team kicked off the new football season in style with victory at the 2008 Loch Lomond International tournament.

The young Diamonds were unbeaten over three days and recorded some stunning wins on their way to the trophy over teams who are champions at under-14 level from the United States, Ireland and Edinburgh.

Manager Ray Murphy was proud of his players and hailed their terrific success as a major achievement for the side.

He said: “This is a great achievement for the players as they have worked hard to raise their game to allow us not only to compete, but beat the top clubs from various nations.

“The American team that lost to us suffered their first defeat in two years.

“I’d like to thank the players for their workrate, the great support we received over from parents and families and to Tam Dawson, my assistant at the tournament.

“The team would also like to thank Eddie at the Fourways Bar for his continued support and sponsorship.”

Trials for the team for the coming season have now finished and the club extends its best wishes to all players who attended the sessions and gave their support to the young Diamonds.
