Neighbours burn off the 10K fun run opposition

NEXT door neighbours Kenny O’Neill and Collette Fagan survived the sunshine to take the honours in the St Andrew’s Hospice 10K Fun Run.

The Coatbridge training mates were first man and woman home in Sunday’s event at Strathclyde Country Park.

Hot, sunny weather made life difficult for a strong field of runners who paced themselves well in order to complete the course.

Collette, who competed for Scotland at the 2006 Commonweath Games in Melbourne, Australia, revealed she was delighted with her and Kenny’s double success.

The 26-year-old told the Advertiser: “It was funny how things turned out and I am really pleased for Kenny as I knew he really wanted to win.

“We often train in Strathclyde Park on a Saturday morning so it was nice for both of us to do well.

“The conditions were tough and it was maybe just a wee bit too hot. But you just have to pace yourself.

“People’s times were quite slow but that’s understandable. My time was quite slow compared to how fast I would normally run.”
