Superb showing for primary team in top race competition

PUPILS from St Bernard’s Primary School narrowly missed out on running glory when the North Lanarkshire road race championships were held recently.

The team representing the Coatbridge school were making their debut in the event.

And they produced a great performance to finish in second place behind St Bernadette’s Primary of Motherwell.

A total of 40 teams from all over the county took part in the 6K relay race which was held at Strathclyde Country Park with each participant expected to run at least 1000 metres.

The St Bernard’s Primary relay team was: Jordan Craig, John Patrick Doyle, Grace Hamilton, Craig McIlwraith, Erin McMullen, Jennifer O’Hara, Roisin Smith and Jack Turner.

Delighted principal teacher, Jim Hughes, paid tribute to the efforts of the team.

He said: “This was the first time the team had ever entered this race.

“And to finish as runners-up out of approximately 40 teams from across the whole of North Lanarkshire was a tremendous achievement.”

TERRIFIC: the pupils who did well to finish in second place for St Bernard’s Primary School in the county road race recently.
