WAYSIDERS/DRUMPELLIER’S midi section pulled off a fine double victory at the weekend.
The S1/S2 mixed team travelled to Cumbernauld and won the try-count 6-1 at Auchenkilns.
Garrett Leckie marked another excellent display with a brace of scores. Kieran Lilly, Ben Plant, Reiss Young and David Findlay also touched down.
Coach Iain Salisbury said: “This was a solid performance in all areas and the boys were worthy of their victory. The side was boosted by the addition of the Fagan twins to the forwards.
“Both Nathan and Ryan played their first-ever games of rugby and looked comfortable on the park.”
The under-15s were on the road as well and secured a 29-15 win at Cartha Queen’s Park.
Captain Vann Smith and Brendan Meechan scored two tries apiece with Daniel Irvine also touching down. Ross Neilson kicked two conversions.
Coach Jake Wilson said: “The boys were elated at avenging September’s league defeat at Langloan.
“Cartha QP are a very good side and W/D were only a few points ahead with less than 10 minutes to play.
“They showed character and determination in this game and their confidence is growing with every outing. We started this team back in August, there is good competition for places and this can only be a good thing going forward.”
Jake added: “Having won three of our seven league games so far is something we could never have imagined.
“But as the boys’ confidence and self-esteem grows, they are playing much better rugby and that is reflected with this scalp.”
The S1/S2 squad head to Greenock this weekend with the under-15s on league duty at Cumbernauld.
Training will take place at Dunbeth Park between 7-9pm. The midi section’s next social evening is a Curry Karaoke Night on November 26 at Shimla Cottage in Coatbridge.
*THERE is a return to National League Two action for Waysiders/Drumpellier this Saturday.
Craig Collin’s men will travel to Violetbank to face rock-bottom Annan on the back of a run of six defeats in seven games.
