Waysiders link with West District new boys Calder

WAYSIDERS/DRUMPELLIER Rugby Club are joining forces with another Lanarkshire outfit, which could pave the way towards a future amalgamation.

The Langloan side are linking up with West League Division Two new boys Calder, who are based in the Bellshill area.

The tie up will mean Waysiders have access to the club’s squad although Calder will continue to play under their own name this season and could receive players on loan in return.

Waysiders coach Jon Shaw has given his support to the amalgamation scheme and said: “I believe this is a positive step. In the short term, this is an affiliation between both clubs. The whole situation could happen in the long-term.

“There will be no name change for now but that could possibly happen in the future.

“This move will boost our squad by about a team-and-a-half and is going to add so much strength in depth. That means the number of players we are looking to bring into the club may now change because of this development.”

Waysiders faced Hillfoots in a training game last weekend and this Saturday will travel to Torrance House to play Lanarkshire rivals East Kilbride.
