Charity is big winner in golf competition

MONKLANDS’ largest housing association has raised £2500 for an international charity.

The cash will go towards building two family homes in a single day to help beat poverty.

The group presented a cheque to its chosen charity, Habitat for Humanity, after raising the money at its annual charity golf tournament, The Clyde Valley Cup, held at Airdrie’s Easter Moffat Golf Club.

Presenting the cheque to Habitat for Humanity’s Janice Clark, Clyde Valley chairman Tom Campbell said: “Once again, the Clyde Valley Cup was a great event which was thoroughly enjoyed by all of those who took part.

“We are also really pleased to be able to support Habitat for Humanity and be able to see such a great impact from our donation.

“Without the commitment and generosity from our stakeholders, this would not have been possible and I would like to thank them for their contributions.”

Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 with the aim of tackling poverty housing on a global scale.

Thirty years on, the charity works in 92 countries and has built 225,000 homes in partnership with people who need simple, decent housing.

The event was sponsored by Ogilvie Construction, Barclays Commercial and ARM Architects, and was supported by the association’s key contractors and partners, who entered teams into the Texas Scramble Tournament.

Winners of this year’s tournament were the Ewing Sommerville Partnership, with Gillian Lavety of Wates Living Space picking up the nearest to the pin prize, and Hay and Anderson’s Iain Wilson winning the prize for the longest drive.
