TOMMY COYNE bagged his first goal since joining Albion Rovers and admitted it was great to get back on the scoresheet.
The 21-year-old was on target for the Cliftonhill outfit who defeated Berwick Rangers 2-1 in the second round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.
And his strike helped Albion Rovers to a victory that sealed a home clash with Second Division Queen’s Park in the third round next month.
Now Coyne - son of Celtic legend Tommy - is hoping to find the net on a more regular basis, starting with this weekend’s clash against Cowdenbeath.
He said: “To say I was relieved to get a goal is an underestimate.
“I am pleased to get off the mark and help the team to the win.
“I knew the first goal would come eventually. Every striker goes through stages like this, you start to get frustrated and feel the goals are getting smaller.
“But you just have to keep your head down and continue to work hard and get into scoring positions.
“I speak to my dad every day and he told me to keep believing in myself and that I was playing well.
“I would have been more worried if I wasn’t getting in the right areas but thankfully my goal at Berwick certainly does take a weight off my mind.”
The ex-Dumbarton striker added: “I am loving life at Rovers.
“A lot of people have negative opinions of the club but they are wrong.
“Everyone has been really good with me off the park and on the pitch we are playing some nice football.
“We are trying to play the game in the right way but the results just haven’t gone for us yet.”
ALL SMILES: Albion Rovers hitman Tommy Coyne scored his first goal for the club on Saturday.
