Bobby aiming to be the best Barr none as he sets his sights on return to full-time football

BOBBY BARR is hoping a star season with Albion Rovers can earn him a return ticket to full-time football.

Cliftonhill gaffer Paul Martin swooped to capture the lively winger in the summer after he was released by St Johnstone.

Barr enjoyed a loan spell at Rovers towards the end of last season and is determined to make his mark this term.

The 20-year-old said: “I enjoyed being here last season. There were a few clubs who asked for us but Paul phoned me and said he was keen to bring me here.

“It’s good to play every Saturday. It is so much better to wake up at the weekend knowing you are going to get a game - at St Johnstone I wasn’t getting a look in.

“I enjoyed my time up at Saints and it is what I want to do for a living. I don’t want to be part-time, I want to get back to full-time football but being here will put me in the shop window so it is up to me to play well.

“I like to play wide on the right-hand side of midfield but if the manager wants me through the middle then I’ll do my best.”

Barr reckons the Rovers dressing-room has the ability to challenge for a play-off place.

He added: “We are happy with the way we are playing and the manager is continuing to encourage us to play football.

“I think we have a squad good enough to push for the top-half of the table and hopefully we can go on a good run and achieve that.”

THE Albion Rovers Supporters’ Trust are subsiding travel for this weekend’s trip to Scottish Football League new boys Annan Athletic.

Fans are being encouraged to book with the supporters’ bus and cheer on Paul Martin’s men in the Third Division clash at Galabank.

The bus leaves St Andrews Bar in Coatbridge at 12.30 and the Horseshoe Bar in Coatdyke at 12.40.

The cost of the bus will be capped at just £10 and trust members are hoping for a good turnout of Cliftonhill regulars.
