PETER LYNN bagged a stunning hat-trick to book Airdrie United under-15s’ place in the third round of the Scottish Cup.
The young Diamonds were particularly impressive in the second half of the second round tie and ran out 4-2 winners over hosts Cumbernauld United.
Airdrie, however, found themselves a goal down as Cumbernauld started brightly but Lynn sparked the comeback when he drilled a low shot into the corner of the net to make it 1-1.
The home side went back in front after the interval but the young Diamonds then took control of matters and only great saves denied Stephen Conn and Rhys Minnock from drawing their side level.
Airdrie eventually levelled for a second time thanks once again to Lynn who volleyed home to ensure his side’s attacking threats were well rewarded.
With the stuffing knocked out of their North Lanarkshire rivals, the tie was Airdrie’s to be won and strikes from Jamie Allen and Lynn were enough to knock the hosts out and put United through.
