Airdrie United youngsters win league cup

AIRDRIE UNITED under-14s coach Ray Murphy singled out the team’s supporters for praise after his side won the CFAL League Cup.

The young Diamonds battled bravely in dreadful conditions to see off a very strong Kilsyth ‘M’ side at Newtown Park, Bo’ness.

And they claimed the trophy in front of a large crowd after a thrilling penalty shoot-out, with Jamie Logan netting the winning spot-kick.

Murphy said: “The players were outstanding, as they have been all season.

“But a special mention must go to the fantastic support which not only followed us to the final, but who have turned out for every single match.

“They deserved to see the team lift their second piece of silverware this season.”
