Airdrie Utd Under-19s end league season with easy 2-0 victory

A SHAUN Cairney brace gave Airdrie United under-19s victory a 2-0 win over Ayr United in the final league game of the saeson.

Keiran Donaghy almost gave the home side an early lead but his shot was deflected wide on its way to goal.

Callum Brady came close with a well-taken free-kick, which dipped inches wide of the post, and soon afterwards keeper William Morrison missed a clearance but the visitors failed to find the empty net.

However, the Diamonds toook a 1-0 lead into the half-time break thanks to a long range Cairney drive which whistled into the net.

Soon after the restart, Cairney almost scored again but his header flew just wide.

The Diamonds continued to probe but they had to wait until the closing stages to increase their lead and put the result beyond doubt.

Once again, Cairney was the man on target when he found space in the box and finished off a neat move to give his side a well-earned victory.
