AIRDRIE United under-17s took on their Clyde counterparts at Airdrie Leisure Centre and won 3-1 thanks to goals from Jamie Bain, Anthony Clarke and Alexander Murray.
The Bully Wee were first to go for goal but the ball slipped wide of target and two minutes later Scott Craig forced a decent save out of the Clyde goalkeeper.
Clyde then took the game to Airdrie but failed to take advantage of a few clear-cut chances.
Ryan Donnelly almost gave the home side the lead but his header edged over the crossbar.
Then Anthony Clarke tried his luck with a similar effort but the Clyde goalkeeper tipped the ball over.
Both sides continued to create scoring opportunities but it was Airdrie who got their noses in front when Jamie Bain’s dangerous cross dropped into the net.
The Diamonds doubled their lead two minutes later when Clark powered home another penetrating cross from Bain.
However, shortly before the break, Clyde closed the gap to keep the contest alive.
It didn’t take the Diamonds long to extend their advantage once again when Alexander Murray broke clear of the offside trap and tucked home number three to set the home side up for a comfortable second half.
To their credit, Clyde did not give up the ghost but Airdrie didn’t lose concentration and held out to secure a satisfying win.
