Barn boxers win medals at championships

COATBRIDGE’S famous Barn Boxing Club maintained its reputation as a talent factory at the recent western district championships.

Fighters representing the club were among the honours at the competition, held at the Pivot Centre in Moodiesburn.

The Barn fielded 19 boxers during the event as they went up against members of around 80 clubs, and came away with eight gold medals and four silvers.

Mark McKeown, Ryan Love, Aiden McGlynn, Declan McCusker, Ross Logue, Calvin Bannan, William Mowat and Anton Lafferty all claimed golds.

And the quartet of Paul Martin, Darren Shannon, Jonathan McGregor and Lucas Ferguson achieved silvers.

Barn coach Rab Bannan said: “The standard of boxing was very high but our fighters tore some of them apart.”

Derek Hill, of club sponsor Select Blinds, paid tribute to the efforts of the young boxers.

He said: “I would like to congratulate all those who competed for the Barn. They did the club proud and produced some excellent performances.”
