Watson to take on The Predator

LOCAL boxer Martin Watson has been lined up to fight Michael Gomez next month.

The Coatbridge fighter (27) will take on the 31-year-old, known as The Predator, in what looks set to be a thrilling battle at the Dalziel Park Country Club on Friday, October 10.

No belt is at stake but promoter, Carlo Rea, insists the fight will still be a cracker.

He told the Advertiser: “They have the exact same type of style – they will just stand in the middle of the ring and go toe-to-toe with each other, trading blows.”

Gomez fought young lightweight sensation Amir Khan in June, losing on a technical knockout in round five.

Meanwhile, Ricky Burns could be contesting the Commonwealth title in London next Friday night.

The 25-year-old is expecting confirmation of a fight with an unnamed opponent at some point this week.
